Huawei Launches the Latest Smartphone Amid US Ban

Huawei Technologies Co. introduced the Mate 40 series of smartphones on Thursday, powered by its self-designed Kirin chips.

China’s largest tech company by sales has been racking up chips to get its flagship device out in time to compete with Apple’s iPhone 12 over the holidays. The company will have to overhaul its smartphone lineup as Trump Administration sanctions have taken effect. They reduced its ability to design and manufacture advanced internal chips by isolating Huawei from companies such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.

Richard Yu, Vice President of the Wireless Technical Sales Dept, has already been prevented from shipping phones with the full Android experience augmented by Google. But that didn’t stop it from excelling Samsung Electronics Co. and becoming the best-selling smartphone of the summer. Mainly it is the result of growing domestic sales. Without a contractor producing its chips or the ability to purchase processors from a vendor like Qualcomm Inc., the division’s prospects for the future are less optimistic.

Trade sanctions make things extremely difficult for the company

Richard Yu stated during a live broadcast presentation that US ban caused suffering to the company. He stated that it is unfair. He opened the event saying that “at Huawei, we continue to dare to dream together of a bright future.”

However, Yu mentioned that trade sanctions make things extremely difficult.

The dual-SIM Huawei Mate 40 features a Pro features a 6.5-inch mate display. And the Huawei Mate 40 Pro features a 6.76-inch display. The Kirin 9000 5nm processor powers it.

Although Huawei faced restrain from doing business with technology partners and vendors, it still promotes the Leica co-branding on its imaging hardware. Once again, it is offering a Porsche Design edition of its new flagship smartphone. Huawei also announced a new pair of headphones and new home speakers in collaboration with French audio brand Devialet SA.

Huawei is a leader in China. There the mobile software ecosystem is developed with vendor-specific apps and stores along with Tencent Holdings Ltd.’s WeChat app as a mini operating system. Huawei’s Mate 40 responds to Apple’s new 5G-enabled iPhones. Moreover, it extends the period before it has to rethink its consumer device strategy completely. The Mate 40 will be on sale for $1,064. The Mate 40 Pro will cost $1,418, and a Mate 40 Pro Plus with more updates will cost $1,655. Huawei has not specified a release date yet.
