Biden Unveils his Committee to Deal with the Covid-19 Pandemic

The president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, announced on Monday that he intends to win one of the most important battles that await him once he takes office on January 20, 2021.

Biden has stressed in a statement that he will allow himself to be advised by scientists and by experts. Which is quite the contrary to current president, Donald Trump. Trump has even questioned the advice of the main epidemiologist of the White House, Anthony Fauci.

Biden explained that the advisory board would help him design his work to deal with the spike in infections. They would ensure that vaccines are safe, effective and distributed efficiently, equitably and free of charge. Moreover, they will aim to use it to protect high-risk populations.

Doctors David Kessler, Vivek Murthy and Marcella Nunez-Smith will lead the new board, which will have another ten members. Biden’s campaign has highlighted the experience of all of them, emphasizing that their work will be essential in developing a strategy with which to deal with the spike in infections in at least 40 states.

The United States is the country in the world most affected by the pandemic. Almost 10 million people have been infected so far. 237,000 of them resulted in a fatality, according to Johns Hopkins University. The government’s response to the emergency has been one of the significant issues of the last electoral campaign.

From fighting the coronavirus to retaking the Paris Agreement on climate and promoting immigration reform, Biden assured that his presidency would change the course of the country on multiple fronts.

The president-elect declared that he would have the enormous task of repairing the damage Trump has done.

Effectively reopening the economy will be another immediate priority, according to Biden.

The Democrat, who has recalled his experience uniting lawmakers from both parties, said he would ask Congress to agree on a massive stimulus package to face the effects of the coronavirus. Besides, it would help the families who are suffering the most, as well as battered small businesses.

In July, Biden unveiled its “Build Back Better” strategy, a $700 billion plan to create millions of jobs. The financing would come from collecting higher taxes from the wealthiest Americans and large corporations.

He has also said that he would invest largely in the renewable energy sector.
