The Ad Council Begins a Campaign for the Covid-19 Vaccine
After a long wait, a Covid-19 vaccine has been discovered. However, many people are worried that scientists used a relatively short amount of time to create and test it. Such fears are quite valid because researchers usually test vaccines for an extended period to observe long-term results. But in this case, they used new technology and the coronavirus vaccines to quite safe for use.
Still, the officials see the importance of abating people’s fears. No one wants to become a lab rat. What people need is to see that vaccine is safe and will do no long-term damage. To achieve that goal, the Ad Council decided to roll out a massive coronavirus vaccine education campaign. The Ad Council wants people to know that it’s OK to have questions about the vaccination. And it wants to give accurate answers to those questions.
The Ad Council is a nonprofit organization, and it makes and distributes public service announcements. It is currently ramping up one of the largest public education efforts in U.S. history. The organization partnered with the Covid Collaborative, a new coalition of experts in health, the economy, and education.
Lisa Sherman, the Ad Council president, and CEO noted that fear about unknown medicines and vaccines is the biggest issue of our lifetime. And considering the dangers that pandemic poses, alleviating those fears is the most significant public education effort they’ve ever undertaken.
She also added that they hope there’s a light at the end of the tunnel with these vaccines being available at last. And we shouldn’t forget the scientific community’s extraordinary and heroic efforts, which made that happen. However, levels of vaccine hesitancy are still very high, especially in communities of color.
How does the organization plan its educational campaign?
Sherman noted that first of all, the Ad Council will start with spreading factual information. The end goal is to move people from “vaccine hesitancy” to “vaccine confidence.”
The campaign’s reach will be broad. Dozens of brands, social platforms, and media companies will make content and donate media to extend the message – “It’s Up To You.” Among the partners are Disney, Google and YouTube, Fox, Facebook, Twitter, Spotify, and many more.
The campaign aims to guide people toward a new website – GetVaccineAnswers.org. They can get answers to all questions about the Covid-19 vaccines there. According to Sherman, the administration will update the site frequently with data and information.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with the FDA and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, vetted the site, and it will be available in seven languages.
