Google Allows Debit Card Payments in Brazil

Recently, Google.com has launched a card payment solution in Brazil. This is through Google Pay for strengthening the use of its Android smartphones.

Moreover, the move is substantial because online retailers in the country have a tendency to only take credit cards due to fraud, which are associated with debit cards.

Google also indicated it has managed to resolve the problem of fraud. On the flip side, it did not disclose details about how it has done this.

According to news reports, Google Pay will be boosting the country. This is by the card issuers Banco do Brasil SA, Banco Bradesco SA, and Itau Unibanco Holding SA.

In addition, support for card networks such as Mastercard, Visa, and Elo will also be given.

Meanwhile, the search giant stated that neither retailers, card issuers, nor card processors would be charged to use the platform.

Instead, Google is in search to boost its revenues by growing the Android usage within the country.

According to the head of Google Pay in Latin America, Joao Felix, the country has 60 million debit cardholders and 50 million credit cardholders.

Google will allow millions of customers to shop online more easily. Moreover, it will attract more Android users in the process with its latest move.

Around 76% of all the smartphones running in Brazil are Android. Meanwhile, iOS is on around 22.5% of devices.

It will be exciting to see whether Google’s move changes these stats in Google’s favor. This is after more of the population comes online.

In Brazil, online retailers often take only credit cards, not debit cards.

This stands to make public transport payment a more all-in-one experience for handlers of the payment platform.

The director of product management for Google Pay, Ambarish Kenghe, stated, “Working with Cubic will help us simplify the commute for Google Pay users in several major transit systems.

He also added, “It also includes the support for Clipper cards in the San Francisco Bay Area… Ultimately, our goal is to make riding public transit seamless and convenient for as many people as we can.”

Meanwhile, San Francisco is the only area that’s precisely mentioned, but the companies are confident that this will be rolled out across a wide range of locals.

After all, the Cubic Transportation Systems is responsible for a vast array of transport innovations comprising of the Oyster Card and Future Ticketing Agreement in London.
