Facebook Will Launch a Feature that Debunks COVID-19 Myths

Social media giant, Facebook, finally launches a new section dedicated to debunking myths about coronavirus. The company announced the new creation yesterday and some critics praised the company for the move.

According to the technology company, the new section is a part of its efforts in cracking down misinformation and disinformation. It also comes with crucial timing, as most myths cause panic, or worse, false hope due to inaccurate “medical” claims.

In a tweet, the company unveiled “Facts About Covid-19”, saying that it helps breakdown common myths about the virus.

The company also provided a sample screen about the feature on the tweet. Technology news reports say that Facebook will use information from the World Health Organization (WHO).

A sample myth, which some have debunked, was the false claims that Hydroxychloroquine could cure, prevent, or even treat the virus.

The company also announced that its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, will interview Doctor Anthony Fauci regarding the pandemic today. Fauci is the current director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

The doctor also plays a critical role as a leading government voice regarding the pandemic and how to respond. However, Fauci has been called out by some in the Trump Administration, including White House trade advisor Peter Navarro.

Moreover, some critics have called out the social media company because of its stance against the truth. In the past, the company previously said that social media networks aren’t arbiters of truth.

Also, aside from that, the company refused to ban misleading political advertisements.

Another Launch

After a year in the making, Facebook is ready to finally launch Instagram Reels, a new competitor for TikTok. The social media giant has expanded its horizons thanks to modern technology and is now a major force in the industry.

Sources close to the matter said that Instagram Reels will make its way in the US and over 50 countries worldwide. The launch should come in a matter of weeks, and it arrives as TikTok faces intense scrutiny from Washington.

Just like the Chinese platform, Instagram Reels allows users to create and share their 15-second video clips. It also boasts a vast catalog of music users can use or even remix.

In fact, Facebook has already launched Reels in Brazil last year in November. Last month, it released it in France and Germany.

And just last week, Instagram Reels made its debut in India, a few days after the government banned TikTok.

The new video making feature will have a release in the United States, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Japan, and more countries, soon.
