Australia Stocks Gain at Close of Trade 

Australia stocks climbed higher after the close on Tuesday. Increases in the Gold, Energy and IT sectors led shares higher in the stock market charts.

The S&P/ASX 200 added 0.35% at the close in Sydney.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 was Northern Star Resources Ltd rising 10.64%. That’s also 1.470 points to trade at 15.290 at the close.

Meanwhile, Saracen Mineral Holdings Ltd added 9.58% or 0.50 points to end at 5.72.  Moreover, in late trade, Westgold Resources Ltd was up 7.08% or 0.170 points to 2.570.

The worst performer of the session was Nanosonics Ltd. It fell 4.70% or 0.27 points to trade at 5.48 at the close.

Also declining was Mesoblast Ltd down 4.21% or 0.150 points to end at 3.410 and ALS Ltd. It fell 3.53% or 0.34 points to 9.30.

On the Sydney Stock Exchange, rising stocks outnumbered declining ones by 729 to 456 and 375 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options. S&P/ASX 200 VIX  fell 6.05% to 20.251.

 

Gains in the Gold, Energy and IT sectors

In precious metals, Gold Futures for December delivery fell 0.25% or 4.80 to $1915.30 a troy ounce. In energy commodities, Crude oil for November delivery rose 0.54% or 0.21 to hit $39.43 a barrel. The December Brent oil contract gained 0.46% or 0.19 to trade at $41.48 a barrel.

In forex exchange, AUD/USD declined 0.32% to 0.7156, while AUD/JPY fell 0.36% to 75.62.

The US Dollar Index Futures fell 0.02% at 93.525.
