Innovation and Technology are Indispensable for the future’s airport

It is a good time for renovation at Eindhoven Airport, with fewer passengers and suitcases because of the ongoing pandemic. The airport is working hard with its partners on technological solutions and innovations for their baggage operations.

It is a Dutch airport in the center of the Brainport region distinguished by its quality technology, knowledge, and design. That is why the region is committed to the permanent improvement of the quality of its airport.
Mirjam van den Bogaard, Chief Operating Officer of Eindhoven Airport, said that there would come a time again when people get back on their feet and start traveling. She added that they are ready for the new challenges with an airport that applies innovative technology to make passengers and employees more comfortable.

As Mirjam noted, innovation is the key to a sustainable and better airport. Eindhoven Airport works together with its multiple partners to make its operations more sustainable, efficient, and customer-friendly. She added that they like to invite companies to test their technological solutions and innovations with them. More and more companies are interested in this idea.

BagsID and Vanderlande are conducting a bag recognition pilot trial using artificial intelligence in the airport. A camera in the baggage system photographs the suitcase and compares the photo with the previously uploaded image of the suitcase into the system. In this way, they can monitor the suitcase better during the baggage handling process.

Using autonomous vehicles

Eindhoven and Vanderlande will continue the collaborative work in another innovation-led trial, where the autonomous vehicles will transport luggage to and from the Eindhoven airport.
In the past, Vanderlande conducted at Rotterdam The Hague Airport live tests with this technology gaining insights that later contributed to the development of this solution. RTM will be the testing ground again, as well ass the Eindhoven Airport, where the autonomous vehicle trial will begin in 2021.
