Huawei Launched its Hig-End Smartphones Outside of China

There was a time when Huawei was the number one smartphone player in the world. The company overtook Samsung and became the number one smartphone maker in the second quarter of 2020. However, U.S. sanctions created numerous problems for the company. This decline has been caused by U.S. sanctions on the Chinese tech giant over the past few years. 

Due to sanctions, Huawei is not able to Google’s Android mobile operating system and related apps. Huawei had to adapt to the new reality.  

Despite problems, it launched high-end smartphones outside of the country. On Wednesday, Huawei announced plans to launch the P50 Pro and foldable P50 Pocket markets outside China. It launched both models in the summer of 2021 in China.

It won’t be easy for Huawei to compete with rivals. Neither P50 Pro nor P50 Pocket has the ability to connect to super-fast 5G internet due to U.S. sanctions. Both models sport chips from U.S. company Qualcomm to allow 4G connections. 

The price of P50 starts at 1,199 euros ($1,353). It has a 6.6-inch display and two large camera modules on the back of the phone. Huawei’s other model P50 Pocket is a foldable smartphone designed to slip into pockets as well as bags. Both of them are designed to be able to sync across various Huawei hardware products. 

Huawei’s latest devices will come equipped with EMUI 12, one of its own operating systems. Unfortunately, its devices will not feature Google apps or an app store. Its own app store, called the App Gallery does not have high-profile apps that users want. 

The company continues to launch new models, but its focus shifted to other areas, including software and cloud computing. Both areas are slightly more insulated from sanctions.
