More than a year ago, on January 18, on the NFT auction house Nifty Gateway, a famous animator raised more than a million in Ethereum (ETH) for his artwork.

Roiland used his Twitter account to address his followers. He said, “Testing the boundaries of crypto art.

What makes something valuable? The art? The artist? The process? The state of mind while created? The intention of the piece? Feeling really good about this collection.”

According to Nifty Gateway, “All proceeds going to help the Los Angeles homeless encampments.”  It is worth mentioning that one of the auction’s five-minute open editions aggregated a total of $275k in ether.

Interestingly, after Justin Roiland’s NFT collection sale ended, the auction house tweeted about Roiland’s record auction.

Creators of Rick and Morty and NFT

NFT artwork is quite popular in the crypto community. It isn’t hard to understand why. Artists have the opportunity to earn millions of dollars. For example, the collection created by the co-creator of Rick and Morty was sold for $1.65 million.

Let’s take a look at the most expensive NFTs in history.

The Merge was bought by 28,983 people. They bought a total of 312,000 shares (each of which is an NFT) for $91.8 million.

The above-mentioned NFT artwork has made Pak the most valuable living artist in history.

The second place belongs to ‘Everydays: The First 5000 Days’, which was sold for $69.3 million.

Do you know who created the above-mentioned NFT artwork? Digital artist Mike “Beeple” Winkelmann. His artwork was sold at Christie’s first-ever digital art auction more than a year ago in March of 2021.

Pak and his other famous NFT artwork

At the moment, the third most expensive NFT in history is “Clock.” This NFT is a joint creation of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and Pak.

The purpose of this NFT artwork was to raise funds. As you know, it is quite expensive to hire a lawyer, etc. So, this NFT artwork was created in order to raise funds for Julian Assange’s defense. Notably, it was auctioned for the equivalent of $52.7 million in February 2022 to AssangeDAO, a decentralized organization (DAO).

What’s interesting is that the above-mentioned NFT artwork is part of a larger NFT collection called Censored. Importantly, Censored features more than 29,000 tokenized by buyers of the project. As a reminder, the proceeds for this NFT sent went to pro-freedom organizations Julian Assange, as well as Pak chose, including the Way Holland Foundation. Another expensive CryptoPunk is CryptoPunk #4156. It was sold for $10.26 million in 2021. It is worth mentioning that the sale was prompted by the pseudonymous collector Punk4156.
