What Is Happening in Indian Markets This Week?

After the market closed on Tuesday, Indian equities rose as increases in the metals, information technology, and technology sectors drove up stock prices.

The Nifty 50 index increased by 0.46% at the NSE close. Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex 30 index increased by 0.45%. On the Nifty 50, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS: INBK) had the greatest session performance, rising 2.63% or 29.95 points to close at 1,168.95. JSW Steel Ltd (NS: JSTL) was up 1.74% or 12.15 points to 708.70 in the late afternoon, and NTPC Ltd (NS: NTPC) gained 1.82% or 3.00 points to close at 167.40.

Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS: BPCL), which lost 1.08% or 3.35 points to conclude trading at 306.95, was the worst-performing stock of the session. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS: PGRD) was down 0.57% or 1.25 points to 217.80, while Nestle India Ltd (NS: NEST) fell 0.75% or 148.05 points to close at 19,613.65.

A Look Into the Performers

On the BSE Sensex 30, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO: INBK) increased by 2.64% to 1,169.55, NTPC Ltd. Moreover, (BO: NTPC) increased by 1.55% to close at 167.00, and Infosys Ltd. (BO: INFY), which increased by 1.31% to conclude at 1,587.75, were the top three performers. The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO: PGRD), which dropped 0.43% to 218.00 at the close, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO: BRTI), which lost 0.53% to conclude at 846.65, and Nestle India Ltd (BO: NEST), which was down 0.74% to 19,611.95 in late trade.

On the India National Stock Exchange, declining equities exceeded rising ones by 1010 to 858. Meanwhile, 73 stocks closed unchanged. On the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1785 stocks fell, and 1524 advanced. Meanwhile, 162 remained steady. The India VIX, which gauges Nifty 50 option implied volatility, fell 6.45% to 13.84, a record 52-week low.

The price of gold for delivery in December increased by 0.5%, or $8.75, to $1,748.35 per troy ounce. In other commodity markets, January delivery of crude oil increased by 0.47% or 0.38 to trade at $80.42 per barrel. Meanwhile, January delivery of Brent oil increased by 0.45% or 0.39 to trade at $87.84 per barrel. While EUR/INR increased 0.30% to 83.92, USD/INR decreased 0.08% to 81.64.
