U.S. Stocks Mixed at Stock Trading Close

U.S. stocks were mixed after the stock trading closed on Monday.  Gains in the Healthcare, Technology and Consumer Services sectors led to higher shares. Losses in the Oil & Gas, Financials and Basic Materials sectors led to lower shares.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.45% at the close in NYSE. The S&P 500 index climbed 0.01%, while the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.78%.

The best performer of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average was Pfizer Inc. It rose 2.36% or 0.88 points to trade at 38.10 at the close. Merck & Company Inc added 1.98% or 1.51 points to end at 77.91. Moreover, Apple Inc was up 1.57% or 4.88 points to 315.01 in late trade.

The worst performer of the session was American Express Company. It fell 4.66% or 4.17 points to trade at 85.33 at the close. 

Boeing Co stocks declined 3.39% or 4.53 points to end at 128.91. Moreover, Caterpillar Inc was down 3.12% or 3.50 points to 108.61.

More on U.S. stocks,  S&P 500’s top performer was Nektar Therapeutics, rising 9.15% to 22.67. Cardinal Health Inc was up 6.74% to settle at 53.24. Moreover, Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc gained 5.03% to close at 285.28.

The worst performer was Under Armour Inc C. It was down 10.51% to 8.00 in late trade. 

Under Armour Inc A lost 9.72% to settle at 9.01. Alliance Data Systems Corp was down 8.82% to 43.02 at the close.

U.S. Stocks NASDAQ Mixed Performance

Still on U.S. stocks, NASDAQ Composite’s top performer was Remark Holdings Inc. rising 72.12% to 1.7900. Cellect Biotechnology Ltd was up 66.67% to settle at 3.950. Moreover, MyoKardia Inc gained 58.62% to close at 96.90.

The worst performer wasRecro Pharm declining 39.67% to 5.08 in late trade. Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory lost 16.67% to settle at 4.10. Moreover, Marathon Patent Group Inc was down 15.08% to 0.760 at the close.

Falling U.S. stocks generally outnumbered the advancing ones. By 1909 to 949 and 84 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange. Furthermore, on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1472 fell and 1215 advanced, while 45 ended unchanged.

Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc rose to all time highs having been up 5.03% or 13.65 to 285.28. Remark Holdings Inc rose to 52-week highs, gaining 72.12% or 0.7500 to 1.7900. 

Recro Pharm fell to 52-week lows, losing 39.67% or 3.34 to 5.08. MyoKardia Inc rose to all time highs, gaining 58.62% or 35.81 to 96.90.

On stock market news, the CBOE Volatility Index, measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options. It was down 1.47% to 27.57 a new 1-month low.
