Trump’s Impeachment Split; Economic Approval Hits Highest in One Year

According to a new CNBC survey, the US is divided evenly on whether to impeach President Donald Trump. But one in every five American is either open to changing their mind or unsure.

A poll of 800 Americans nationwide revealed that 45% disapprove of Congress impeaching Trump while 44% approve. No much difference from the September poll. 10% of those with an opinion said they were open to changing their minds while 11% were unsure.

The poll conducted between Dec. 11-13, has a margin of error of +/- 3.5% points. It shows a massive partisan split with 83% Republican opposition and 78% Democratic support. The Independents disapprove of Trump’s impeachment by 41% to 46%.

American Economy: Trump’s Economic Approval

Significant economic approvals for Trump surged back to their highest levels in a year.

The new numbers show a reverse on a sharp decline seen in the September poll. It coincided with the House’s decision to launch impeachment proceedings.

The president’s approval numbers remain deeply negative despite a rebound in overall approval numbers.

The positive change in both approval ratings indicates that the impeachment motion harmed American’s attitude towards Trump’s presidency.

However, numbers have rebounded much closer to the average levels for the Trump presidency.

According to the survey, 49% approve how the president handles the economy, up from 42% in September, while disapproval dropped from 40% to 50%.

So, Trump’s net economic approval rating swung from minus 8% in September (the first negative in his term) to positive 9%, a massive 17-point move for the series.

His overall approval rating also improved, however, not nearly as much as on the economy.

The survey found that 49% of Americans disapproved of Trump’s job, while 40% approved him. However, the minus 9% net approval number is a big improvement from the minus 16% in the September survey.
