TikTok, the Most Downloaded App by Users in 2020

Donald Trump has failed to defeat TikTok. As the ongoing US president prepares to move out of the White House, the Chinese music app continues to be a hit. This is demonstrated by its 100 million users in the United States. The latest study by the app analysis company App Annie also highlights the platform owned by ByteDance as the most downloaded by users between January and November 2020.

In times of pandemic, users have found their best ally in technology. Specifically, in the applications that allow them to maintain contact with those previously known as closest. According to the data handled by App Annie, users of iOS, and Android devices around the world have downloaded 130,000 million applications during 2020. Behind Tiktok, which became even more popular due to the confinement, we find other social media apps in second and third place. These are Facebook and WhatsApp, respectively, both owned by Mark Zuckerberg.

Which companies follow?

Zoom takes fourth place. It is one of the applications that has grown the most in recent months. Mainly due to companies’ needing to keep up with employees during lockdowns. The videoconferencing service was the medium chosen by many users to maintain contact with friends and family. Despite the scandal Zoom faced this year due to security problems.

Instagram and Facebook Messenger are in fifth and sixth position. These are two other applications owned by Mark Zuckerberg. The first one has received numerous functionalities throughout the year, such as Reels. It allows content creators to share short music videos with the rest of the community in a similar way to TikTok.

Snapchat, one of the few apps that have resisted becoming part of Facebook’s social media conglomerate, ranks eighth. Meet, Google’s video conferencing service, ranked seventh. While Russian messaging app Telegram and Singapore-based music video and editing app Likee, respectively, ranked ninth and tenth.
