The U.S. will have 100 million people vaccinated soon

The coronavirus vaccination process accelerated in the U.S. over the last month. On Thursday, President Joe Biden declared that they would not stop until they beat this pandemic. Even though the country has a long way to go, the vaccine rollout is already a lot less chaotic.

Joe Biden once stated that he planned to get 100 million people vaccinated against coronavirus in the first 100 days of his presidency. It seems he will achieve that goal earlier than he originally planned.

In the United States, approximately 12.3% of people are already fully vaccinated. However, the country hasn’t reached the point of herd immunity yet.

On Thursday, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said to the U.S. Senate that they should be careful about wedding themselves to this concept of herd immunity. This is because they do not know precisely what that is for this particular virus. Instead, they should try to get as many people vaccinated as quickly as they possibly can.

Currently, the Biden administration is planning to send millions of AstraZeneca vaccine doses to Mexico and Canada.

The vaccine rollout process is much more orderly, and supply is better as well. Jennifer Kates, the senior vice president and director of HIV policy and global health at the Kaiser Family Foundation, noted that in December and January, they weren’t sure if the country would have enough doses for everyone.

However, the Biden administration invoked the Defense Production Act, helping to expedite the critical equipment, machinery, and supplies coronavirus vaccine companies needed to make more doses.

The U.S. has sufficient supply for Covdi-19 vaccine rollouts

According to Kates, the Biden administration has decided on an aggressive approach, addressing Covdi-19 vaccine distribution challenges by purchasing more doses. The government basically ensured that the United States now has the supply it needs. Besides, States are now able to predict how much supply they’ll get.

There are three vaccines currently that have approval. The latest one – Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine arm, requires only a single dose instead of two. As a result, more people can become fully vaccinated sooner. There’s been a limited supply thus far. Still, the company stated that it would meet its contractual obligation to have 100 million doses by the end of May. And they will have more on the way with another manufacturing plant.

Lori Freeman, CEO of the National Association of City and County Health Officials, noted that they expect supply to the states to hold steady until the end of March with a larger ramp-up in April.
