Tech billionaires about climate change

The world’s three richest tech billionaires are trying to develop new technologies to reduce the world’s carbon dioxide emissions. Trees are among the most efficient carbon-capturers on earth. However,  trees and reforestation are not very popular on the tech billionaire agenda list.

Climate change appears to be high on the agenda for tech billionaires like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Bill Gates. But there are some questions about whether they’re focusing their efforts on the right areas.
The three richest tech billionaires who rank in the top five wealthiest people on the planet are trying to develop new technologies.

Musk`s primary focus is funding carbon capture technologies. Gates` particular concern is nuclear energy, and Bezos created a dedicated Bezos Earth fund. All of them believe that technology has a significant role in tackling climate change. They are doing their best to ensure they are pushing the boundaries for climate tech.
The founder and CEO of Ecosia, Christian Kroll, told CNBC that those tech billionaires think in the Iron Man way during a video call. It means that they believe that building technology gives us a chance to innovate ourselves out of it. He added that they should be focusing on planting trees.

He said about trees that technology would never get there. Besides that, after planting trees, you will get so many things for free such as fertile soil. Also, it will go against the biodiversity crisis and help the water cycle. As a result, you have fewer droughts and fewer floods.

Global carbon dioxide emissions have risen over the last 100 years, that led to unprecedented global warming and climate change.

Are they focusing on the right areas?

It’s known that trees are the most efficient carbon-capture machines on earth. They remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by photosynthesis. With that, they turn the gas into energy that they use to grow. For example, empress trees can absorb around 100 tons of carbon a year per acre.
Prince William stated his opinion about the importance of investing in nature to prevent climate change and protect the planet.

He talked about the importance of investments in nature through reforestation, supporting healthy oceans and sustainable agriculture. He believes that it the most cost-effective and impactful way of tackling climate change

.
Tesla CEO Musk invested $100 million in new technologies that capture carbon. It is trapping waste carbon dioxide directly from the air or just before it gets emitted from power plants and factories.
While Musk runs a green electric vehicle company, people criticize him for his love of bitcoin. It is one of the world’s biggest carbon emitters.

Meanwhile, Gates believes that nuclear energy is the future, and his company plans to build a fully functional advanced nuclear reactor.

In his new book, Gates doesn’t seem convinced that it`s worth investing in trees.
Bezos established the $10 billion Bezos Earth Fund last February to support scientists, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations. However, people criticize Amazon for increasing pollution with its planes and vans. Also, for using excessive cardboard amounts when packaging its products.
