Sony Invests Millions on Fortnite Creator Epic Games

Gaming enthusiasts are now asking if the world going to see Fortnite in more Sony gaming consoles? People have raised this question after news broke out that Sony invested hundreds of millions in Epic Games.

The two technology companies announced the news late yesterday through a joint press release and it immediately went viral. According to the two, Sony bought $250 million-worth of Epic Game stakes.

The deal means that the Japanese multinational empire will get 1.4% interest in Epic Games game development studio and publisher. The agreement will also give the American video game developer a total market valuation of about $17.86 billion.

In the official press release, it said that the strategic investment further solidifies the relation between the two companies. They added that their broadened collaboration will help create a unique and one-of-a-kind experiences for both consumers and creators.

Technology news reports are already speculating the two would want to create a Fortnite-like virtual multimedia experience.

Epic Game Chief Executive Officer Tim Sweeney said the two companies share a vision of real-time 3G social experiences. He added that the visions lead to a convergence not just in gaming, but also in film, and music.

An example of this is one of Fortnite’s live events like the ever-so-popular Travis Scott concert tour. The said live event was hailed as one of the company’s most ambitious creations at the time.

Moreover, Epic Games clarified that the deal doesn’t mean that Epic titles would now be exclusive to Sony. This means that the company will still be able to publish its famous games on other platforms with other companies.

Other Buzz from the Gaming Biz

Just recently, Fortnite superstar Tyler Belvins, most well-known known as “Ninja”, returned to the streaming world earlier this week. The gaming legend participated in a match on YouTube, and his comeback made headlines after Microsoft ended the Mixer platform.

Modern technology has helped create figures in industries that no-one expected at the time, such as gaming. Ninja is one of the biggest icons in the online gaming world.

Ninja garnered a massive following of almost 24 million subscribers on his YouTube channel shortly into the match. Before the Fortnite game, he had informed his fans about the event via Twitter.

Back in August last year, Ninja left Twitch, an Amazon-owned streaming site. The gamer then told his fans that they would only be able to see him on Mixer, a rival gameplay streaming platform.

That move was then a major win for Microsoft, the owner of the platform, as it pulled viewers towards Mixer.

However, Mixer will officially be shut later this July and gamers were encouraged to transfer to Facebook Gaming.
