Quibi Pulls in 1.7 Million Downloads in Its First Week

The hype of the platform came through, after just one week since its launch, Quibi gets over 1.7 million downloads. The company was founded back in August 2018 and last week, April 6, was its initial launch.

In the past, the company has said it will refrain from disclosing the number of new accounts and app downloads. According to the company, it will first finish the trial window period to end before it discloses information.

However, it appears that it wasn’t the case this time. Technology experts were waiting for the app that’s exclusive only to Android devices and iPhones.

Reports say that users will be given a period of 90 days of free trial upon subscription. The Quibi’s CEO, Meg Whitman told reporters that the median age of their viewers is somewhere in the low 30s.

Critics say that 1.7 million downloads are actually better than what analysts have predicted before the launch. Estimates for the platform range around 1 million to 1.5 million downloads in the first week.

Quibi is a mobile-exclusive subscription video streaming platform that has launched last week in the United States and Canada. The platform has a vast selection of films, tv series, sports, and music shows.

The company is betting about $1.75 billion for its service of ultra-expensive and short-form videos. And unfortunately, the company’s launch didn’t make a load clamor in technology news sites.

The platform’s launch comes at a crucial time as people remain marooned inside their homes thanks to the pandemic. And compared to its competition, the newcomer’s figures aren’t as great as Disney+’s.

Many spectators have already pinned the new company against behemoths in the industry. As also one of the rookies, Disney+’s figures are staggering compared to 1.7 million downloads.

Back in its launch months ago, Disney+ earned a whopping 12.5 million downloads just in its first week.

However, despite being in the same industry in this modern technology, the two are incomparable. Critics say that Disney’s streaming platform would, of course, already have an upper hand.

Compared to Quibi, Disney+ already has a roster of blockbuster films from the MCU, Star Wars, and its own production. Disney is already iconic and despite being new to the game, it’s already a force that’s not to be messed with.

Still, Quibi is applauded by critics as it enters a game full of seasoned players. And the fact that’s it has just started, experts see a lot of room to grow for the platform.
