Since then, the consoles have moved the markets. They have been shooting the top of the list of most consoles sold. They are also playing entertainers to some of the best games ever made.

The original console was a success. PlayStation sold around 100,000 units on its launch day. It was part of the fifth-gen console line-up, leading in the era of 3D graphics and disc-based games.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo 64 and the Sega Saturn gave it a somewhat tough competition. The PS1, in the long run, sold more than both of them combined.

PlayStation currently has the three best-selling home consoles of all time. These are the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation in order.

A month ago, the PS4 only on the record beat out the Wii in lifetime sales.

In a similar line, Guinness World Records currently recognized PlayStation as the best-selling home console brand ever.

PlayStation sold out roughly 450 million units across four generations. The selling happened as of early November.

He said, “From the very start, we opened our arms to developers, providing the tools and technology to create beautiful, expansive worlds, and to experiment with new ideas.”

Ryan added, “That approach led a diversity of games PlayStation is known for, a true hallmark for the brand across multiple generations of hardware platforms.”
