Jupyter – New Malware that Steals Information and Money

The Jupyter malware (or computer virus), had been collecting data on thousands of devices globally, since summer. According to the cybersecurity company Panda Security, it is a new Trojan virus created by cybercriminals of Russian origin.

Once installed on a computer or mobile, this virus is capable of accessing all the users and passwords stored in the Chrome and Firefox browsers. The cybercriminals can potentially take over all stored profiles on the user’s computer. Thus, they gain access to all their credit cards. As well as access to the online stores where the accounts have made purchases. Additionally, cybercriminals typically have access to the email and social networks of their victims.

Hackers regularly upgrade the malware  

The malware undergoes an update every time antivirus developers advance their detection. Thus, whenever the legitimate industry takes steps to detect this malware, its creators update it to go unnoticed.

In addition to stealing access credentials to social networks, email, or even online stores and digital banking, cybercriminals can leave the computer “waiting.”

This way they can finish theft directly from the computer of their victims. In other words, criminals can easily access a victim’s computer, “collect” all the information they have stolen. They can install more malware with which to mine cryptocurrencies or infect other devices with the same virus.

Herve Lambert, head of operations at Panda Security, stated that the malware industry is such a lucrative business. In fact, organized cybercriminal groups use the same maintenance strategies as large software companies. Just as all legitimate companies release software updates to update operating systems or apps, the hackers who have developed Jupyter are also releasing theirs.

Without going any further, the creators of Jupyter released the latest update of their software in the second week of November. However, there have been other periods of the year with much more maintenance activity.
