HitPiece NFT Scam: Website Illegally Sells Songs As NFTs

Hundreds of artists took to social media on Wednesday morning after discovering their music was listed as an NFT on the HitPiece website.

NFTs are trending all over the internet, allowing people to prove ownership of digital assets.

However, the more attractive an NFT system is to us, the more “delicious” it is for scammers to target.

The site, which was practically infamous until now, has featured hundreds of live auction listings for everyone from Drake and the Beatles to small Australian bands.

For instance, the listing for the song “Pure Grinding,” recorded by Avicii, is currently “accepting bids,” with an initial bid of $100.

There’s much likely that HitPiece was scraping Spotify’s API and minting NFTs based on that data.

The musicians have since asked the platform to remove the company’s content without their knowledge or permission.

However, the company stated that the artist gets paid when digital merchandise is sold on HitPiece. It’s also a highly suspicious statement as the artists mention they were not aware of this situation.

Furthermore, the website doesn’t have any blockchain wallet connections available. Thus, it’s unclear if HitPiece truly sells the items as NFTs.

Artists could not contact HitPiece directly. Many have publicly questioned the legitimacy of HitPiece, such as Brenna Ehrlich, chief research editor at Rolling Stone.

Due to HitPiece NFT Scam, the website has currently suspended operation.
