France’s Coronavirus Tracing Application Unavailable Yet

The coronavirus tracing app of France is unfortunately not available yet as the parliamentary continue to discuss it. The application is coined as the “StopCovid” and is a technology project that’s supported by the state of France. 

The application will not be readily available on April 28-29, the schedule of the French PMs to discuss it. The Minister for Digital Affairs, Cedric O, announced the news yesterday as citizens wait for further updates on its progress.

Civil liberties have questioned the safety and the credibility of the application following its announcement to the public. Critics have also questioned how the application will work amidst the rapidly growing number of cases.

The controversial app actually has good intentions, after all, but safety and privacy are also priorities.

According to technology news sites, the smartphone app will warn its users if they came into contact with coronavirus carriers. However, the French government has not yet provided details on how the application will work.

The technical details of the project remain unknown to the public as to why it’s controversial. It’s reported that it will be based on proximity-tracking Bluetooth technology.

And it will not be mandatory enforcement to French citizens. Reports say that users can voluntarily install it on their mobile devices for added caution.

The Digital Affairs Minister is a known defender and advocate for the coronavirus tracing application. And according to O, it may not even be ready until May 11, the initial date targeted to lift the lockdown.

Unfortunately, the majestic country of Italy is one those suffering the most under Coronavirus in Europe. And through the help of modern technology, the government is also planning a similar application.

A start-up company, Bending Spoon, developed the said Italian application. They also designed it to track down the people who tested positive for the coronavirus.

The app aims to help the country to gradually lift the nationwide lockdown that has crippled the economy.

As one of the heaviest hit countries, the Italian government announced that it will be extending its lockdown until May 3. The government is still looking for ways that will help loosen the restrictions imposed more than a month ago.

Coronavirus Special Commissioner Domenico Arcuri told the press late last night about the contact-tracing application. According to Arcuri, they will make it available to certain Italian regions that are heavily struck by the virus.

The idea of a tracing application has already been available and is in use in major Asian countries. Both Singapore and South Korea have launched their application to help contain or curb the virus.

However, in Europe’s case, citizens are concerned about potential data abuse or privacy breach violations from the coronavirus applications.
