Banks Cautious Over Samsung Galaxy S10 Fingerprint Defect

Samsung says it has now released a fix for the complication regarding the fingerprint issue. Moreover, the issue has created a storm of bad publicity for its leading Galaxy S10 and Note 10 smartphones in the last week.

The issue with the innovative in-display fingerprint reader had basically reduced the security to be impractical. In addition, it was compromising nothing more than a cultured cheap gel screen protector.

The issue has been fixed.

In a news report on October 23, the company stated, “Samsung has told its Galaxy phone users to update their biometric authentication to the latest software version.”

Samsung has also assured to send software update notifications. The firm made sure to address it to all registered users of the devices, given the severity of the issue.

The issue had become so severe for Samsung. It is because financial institutions had started to exclude the devices and extract the ability to use fingerprint readers to access accounts and approve transactions.

Uncertain Decisions On The Next Possible Steps

Meanwhile, banks in the U.K., Korea, and China had led the way with many more expected to follow. It still remains unclear on what may happen now and when these moves will be upturned.

The issue with Samsung’s fingerprint reader first caused headlines on October 17. Samsung then confirmed the complication and urged users to stick to official accessories.

After the announcement, things quickly escalated.

The original warning was followed by others, then the promise of a software fix is now unrestricted.

Moreover, the restriction comes with directions for users to delete their fingerprints and arrange the biometric security details again.

Meanwhile, the clear danger is that any protector that may have been correlated could still be storing the original fingerprints.

For now, it is still unclear how the software patch will protect the device versus the use of these covers in the future.
