Amazon India Removes Single-use Plastic Packaging

Earlier today, Amazon announced that it will finally stop using single-use plastics for its packaging in India. The technology company gave the delivery pledge across its fulfillment centers in the country.

The move comes a year after its vow last year, which it said that it wishes to achieve by June 2020.

According to the online American retail giant, it will replace the plastic with biodegradable materials. The bubble wraps will be eliminated, and paper cushions are being introduced by the company.

Aside from that, the company is also reportedly using 100% plastic-free biodegradable paper tapes for its parcels. In its statement earlier today, Amazon said that all its fulfilment centers in India are following these newly enforced guidelines.

Technology news reports say that Flipkart, an e-commerce firm in India, announced a similar thing in the past. The rivaling business has said that its usages of single-use plastics are already down by 50%.

Last year. Flipkart also announced that it wants to move entirely from plastic to recycled materials by March 2021.

The online giants, Amazon and Flipkart, made the decisions following the directive by the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, last year.

The Indian PM said that the country and citizens should end the usage of single-use plastic by 2022.

In the past few years, the beautiful country has been struggling to handle waste management. In fact, the country has seen a major shift in the environment and in plastic pollution over the years.

Rivers, lakes, and other natural bodies of water in the country are bombarded with plastic waste. Modern technology may have boosted the country’s gross domestic product, but it has helped make the environment less pleasant.

New Job Opportunities

Aside from the recent announcement about single-use plastic, Amazon announced new job openings on Sunday. The online retail giant unveiled that it’s opening about 20,000 jobs in India.

The company said that the jobs are available to 11 cities in India. Among them are Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Indore, Pune, Chandigarh, Mangalore, Jaipur, and more.

Reports say that the company has given the option for new employees to work from home or in the office. This is because most of the opened positions are for its Virtual Customer Service program.

Applicants must qualify for their 12th standard pass and should be proficient in English, Hindi, Telugu, and other languages. According to reports, Amazon will be paying the individuals about RS 15,000 to RS 20,000 monthly.

The company is looking for full time and part-time applications. For those part-time slots, the employees will have a six-month contract.
