Ads-Free Search Engine Neeva Wants to Compete With Google

Google dominates the search market engine, but other companies are willing to compete with the tech giant. One such company is Neeva. A crew of former Google search and advertising product leaders founded Neeva. It is headed by Sridhar Ramaswamy, who was in charge of Google’s search advertising business.

It won’t be easy to compete with Google but Neeva and other companies are ready to challenge Google’s dominance. A lot of people have not thought much about their search engine. The tech giant from California has a 90% market share of the North American search engine market, up from 84% 10 years ago. It is hard not to use Google search on a regular basis, as it holds the majority share of the browser market.

Nonetheless, as privacy and security become a bigger priority for U.S. consumers, those topics are making people rethink their search engine decisions.

Ads-Free Seach Engine Neeva and its plans

DuckDuckGo is also trying to compete with Google. So, before moving to Neeva, let’s have a look at other competitors. The history of DuckDuckGo dates back to 2008. It was one of the first privacy-focused browsers to pull search users away from the Googleverse. Google’s competitor lacks the resources and platform advantages of other search engines. But DuckDuckGo’s example shows how profitable a search engine toehold can be, even without Google’s tracking apparatus.

Apart from DuckDuckGo, other companies are also willing to compete with the tech giant. Nevertheless, Neeva is the most adventurous new search engine business model. Other companies take it as a given that advertising and affiliate marketing will account for revenue. It is no secret that it is quite hard to compete with Google without adding a cost barrier. But ads-free search engine founded by Google’s former employees has a subscription business.

Everyone can use its search engine for free at the moment, but the subscription gating will roll out in the coming months. As of July, the company has 10,000 users after a year-long test mode. According to Sridhar Ramaswamy, many of the early adopters came from PR efforts, and the company has not run any ads. For instance, parents like the clean, more controlled search experience and are willing to pay for an alternative. Neeva also gained popularity among another segment, seniors. Thanks to the ads-free search engine they can avoid many risk factors.
